Two and a Half Day Class - begins at noon on Wednesday, April 6th.


The best build and strongest steel cable belt in the world is useless until it can be successfully spliced. By popular request, NIBA is debuting its newest class to teach just that.

Over two and a half days, participants will learn the technical details of building and curing a steel cable splice. They will then break into crews to do hands on splicing using the information learned in the technical review. The meeting will conclude with a dissection of the splices made in class so they can be analyzed. Sales personnel will gain equity with their accounts. Belt shop technicians will gain value with their service. And operators will prolong belt life and minimize maintenance concerns.

Course Objective

This educational program combines practical classroom sessions with hands-on training to enhance splicing skill level and to increase the knowledge of standard splicing procedures.

Who Should Attend

Splicing technicians, sales personnel, plant operators, and any other personnel directly involved with belt performance issues are encouraged to enroll to gain a competitive edge in the belt service marketplace.


Must have attended NIBA Spilce Training previously. 10% discount if you register for both courses.

The registration fee includes admission to the entire seminar, group transportation between hotel and class site, any handouts or materials, refreshment breaks and lunch each day.

Cancellation Policy

A $50 cancellation fee is in affect prior to March 20, 2016. After that date, refunds cannot be guaranteed.


Instructor Bios

Instructors are NIBA members Steve Cook, ContiTech North America; Mike Cremeens, Almex Group; Dick McConnell, Flexco; Dell Gutknecht, Reichel-Korfmann Co Inc; and Wes Tyre, Almex Group.

 CookSteve_Veyance_cropped.png Steve Cook of Continental-ContiTech. has 37+ years of experience and knowledge with steel cable and fabric belt splices. Steve’s current responsibilities and skills include splice designs, splice testing, test evaluations, conducting splice training classes, repairing conveyor belts and troubleshooting conveyor belts and conveyor systems. Steve has traveled many countries around the world teaching and supervising conveyor belt hot vulcanized splices. Steve’s knowledge with belt splice designs and the functions of the splice materials makes him a leader in teaching splice reliability and accuracy.

Michael Cremeens brings experience and knowledge to the classroom. Mike’s experiences over the last thirty plus years run the gambit from belt splicer to manufacturing and rubber processing.  Mike has led multi-day technical training sessions in over twenty-five countries and instructed more than 3,000 people in the last twenty years. Mike has authored numerous papers for industry publications and currently is Chair of the NIBA Education & Technical Committee. 


Dell Gutknecht is General Manager of Reichel-Korfmann Co. Inc., also known as RKRubber.  Dell started his thirty-two year career in the conveyor belt and rubber fabrication industry as a distributor and specialty fabricator. His years of specialty fabricating and splicing experience have allowed him to earn the respect of many industry experts as the "go to guy" for answers on some of the more obscure splicing and fabrication challenges.


Dick McConnell has 27 years in the belting industry training, troubleshooting, and selling conveyor belt performance solutions working for Flexco as Strategic Accounts Manager.


Over the past sixteen years, Wes Tyre has been a splice helper, a conveyor belt splicer, a territory representative, a sales manager, a belt splicing trainer, and a manufacturer sales director. For the past three years he has been happy to provide instruction for the NIBA Heavyweight Splicing School and the NIBA 3T Training Class. He has helped train belt splicers on four different continents and many countries.
